               The typewriter shall be equipped with resilient feet or base to minimize movement and prevent marring furniture. The typewriter shall also have a minimum clearance pf 3-1/4 inches between the bottom of the extended carriage and the surface upon which the machine rests. All operating controls must be easily accessible. This requirement precludes any controls on the back of the machine.
               Identification. Each typewriter shall have the manufacturer’s serial number permanently and legibly stamped or affixed on a major component in readily accessible location. In addition, each typewriter shall be permanently and legibly marked in a conspicuous location with the manufacturer’s name or trademark.
Certification.     The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The typewriters shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in a fiberboard box that will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freigh Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.

Item Description.
This description covers manual, non-portable, typewriters for general use as distinguished from those models referred to as “portable” by industry. The typewriters shall be currently marked commercial models designed for office use and shall be drawn from current production lots.
