Mechanical requirements. Unless otherwise specified, the typewriter shall be equipped with the manufacturer’s standard elite type style, complete with upper and lower case characters.
The keyboard arrangement shall be in accordance with figures 1 or 2 attached. The carriage shall accommodate paper 9 inches wide and shall print a writing line up to 8 inches wide.
The typewriter, exclusive of carrying, case shall be of the following dimensions: Height overall 4 to 7 inches (when the carriage is verically adjustable, measure in its lowest positions), overall width not to exceed 15-1/2 inches, overall depth not to exceed 15-1/2 inches. The overall dimensions of the carrying case shall not exceed the dimensions of the typewriter by more than 3 inches width or depth.
The carrying case shall be of rigid construction with high resistance to abrassion, and shall be equipped with a well designed carrying handle. The case shall cushion and secure the typewriter to prevent damage from rough handling. The typewriter shall be readily removable from carrying case, except that when the base of the typewriter is an integral part of the carrying case, in which circumstances the remaining portion of the carrying case shall be readily detachable.
